Located just 7 km from the False Bay coastline, the estate benefits from a natural break in the coastal ridge that funnels cool south and southwesterly breezes directly toward the vineyards. These winds play a vital role in moderating summer temperatures, creating an ideal climate for premium viticulture.
The estate spans 40 hectares under vine, established in 2004 with a diverse selection of varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Pinotage, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chenin Blanc.
Missing Virgin is a distinctive red blend composed of 72% Pinotage and 28% Petit Verdot. It reflects both the unique terroir of our estate and our passion for crafting wines with character and story.
Pinotage is South Africa’s signature grape variety, uniquely born from a 1925 cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. It combines the elegance and finesse of Pinot Noir with the robust, sun-loving nature of Cinsault. Known for its deep color, bold fruit flavors, and hints of earthiness or spice, Pinotage often reveals notes of plum, blackberry, and subtle smokiness. Grown almost exclusively in South Africa, it thrives in warm climates and produces wines with distinctive character—making it a true expression of South African terroir and innovation.
The name Missing Virgin pays homage to a curious philatelic error—a Virgin Islands stamp issued without its central figure of the Virgin, leading collectors to nickname it the “Missing Virgin.” The reference also echoes the legend of Saint Ursula, a British-born virgin martyr believed to have lived between the 3rd and 5th centuries A.D. She famously resisted marriage to a pagan king and was said to have been martyred in Cologne, Germany, alongside 10,000 virgin companions. When Christopher Columbus discovered the islands in 1493, he named them the Virgin Islands in her honor.

Vinification
The grapes were fermented separately, using natural yeasts from the vineyard. The skins were pushed down 4-8 times during peak fermentation. Malolactic fermentation took place in the barrel where the wine had minimal handling. Use was made of traditional gravity flow and no mechanical pumps were used in the wine
making process. The wines were racked 3 times over a 22-month period. There was no filtration and the sulphur levels were kept to a minimum.
Aging
100% barrel aged in French and European oak barrels.

Tasting Notes
A red blend of Pinotage and Petit Verdot grapes resulting in a wine with an intensely dark blueish color. A
full bodied, rich wine with supple soft tannins but with a lively long finish. The nose has a hint of
cinnamon, blueberries, fruit cake and wild heath.
