Torrederos Selección 2016 is born from a rigorous selection of Tempranillo grapes cultivated on the estate-owned vineyards, located in the heart of Ribera del Duero, one of Spain’s most prestigious wine regions. These vineyards are situated at elevations between 850 and 900 meters above sea level, a unique positioning that provides a significant diurnal temperature variation—with hot days and cool nights—ideal for developing complex phenolic ripeness, vibrant acidity, and refined tannins.
The soils are predominantly clay-limestone and sandy loam, with excellent drainage and moderate fertility, which naturally limits yields and concentrates flavor in the grapes. The high-altitude climate, combined with the region’s long, dry growing season, promotes slow, even ripening and helps preserve the natural freshness and aromatic expression of the Tempranillo variety.
All vineyard parcels are located within a 5-kilometer radius of the Torrederos winery, allowing the viticultural team to implement precise, hands-on vineyard management throughout the growing season. This proximity ensures harvest at optimal ripeness and minimal grape handling time, preserving the integrity and purity of the fruit from vine to vat.
The vines are planted primarily using low-intervention methods, with a strong focus on sustainability, soil health, and vine balance, resulting in fruit that reflects both the varietal character of Tempranillo and the singular terroir of Ribera del Duero. Only the finest vineyard parcels are selected for the Selección label, representing the estate’s most expressive and age-worthy fruit.

Vinification
The production includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak. It spends 14 months in barrel, composed of 80% French oak and 20% American oak, before bottling. Following release, it undergoes an additional 18-month bottle ageing to reach optimal refinement .
